Anastomotic leak
Anastomotic leak. This patient had a low anterior resection for rectal cancer. One week post-operatively, the patient became unwell and an anastomotic leak was suspected. A gastrografin enema was performed; the contrast has been introduced through a Foley catheter advanced through the anal canal. This image shows contrast in the bowel as well as in a large pelvic cavity (white arrows), which has reached this through a defect at the site of anastomosis (yellow arrow). A surgical drain is also demonstrated.
