Dislocated hip prosthesis
Dislocated hip prosthesis. This is a fairly common complication of total hip replacements, usually occurring in patients who have fallen. However, if the components of the prosthesis have become loose, they can potentially dislocate with minimal or no trauma – in this setting, a new prosthesis is often required. When the femoral component of a hip prosthesis dislocates, it nearly always does so in a superior and posterior direction.
