Emphysema – CT
Emphysema. The chest radiograph in this patient shows hyperinflated lungs, flattening of the diaphragms and increased lucency of the lungs, typical of emphysema. The HiRes CT image, from the same patient, shows the typical black ‘holes’ (arrows, inset) caused by emphysema, replacing the normally grey lung parenchyma, which explains the increased lucency seen on CXR.
