Intertrochanteric fracture

Intertrochanteric femur fracture. This is an extracapsular fracture which, in contrast to femoral neck fractures, are at low risk for avascular necrosis and therefore do not need a hemiarthroplasty. They are typically managed with a dynamic hip screw (DHS), as shown on the right.
