Large bowel obstruction
Large bowel obstruction. This PFA shows dilated large bowel (the transverse colon is 7.5 cm, normally 6 cm or less). The small bowel is not dilated. The cause of the obstruction is actually visible on the PFA – a soft tissue density causing narrowing of the descending colonic lumen (arrows). Coronal CT, performed the same day, mirrors the radiographic findings, confirming the presence of a carcinoma in the descending colon (arrows). Unfortunately there are multiple low attenuation liver lesions, which were metastases.
