Liver abscess drainage
Liver abscess drainage. This patient developed a large liver abscess as a complication of acute diverticulitis. On coronal CT (a) you can see the low density abscess cavity, surrounded by a rim of enhancement. Using combined ultrasound and fluoroscopic guidance, a drainage catheter was positioned in the abscess (b). Our standard abscess drainage catheters are between 10 and 14 Fr and have a locking pigtail at their distal ends, which helps to secure them in the abscess cavity. Follow-up CT (c) shows near-complete resolution of the abscess.
