Popliteal artery angioplasty – embolus
Popliteal artery angioplasty. In this example, a 26 year old woman, popliteal angioplasty was performed for symptoms of claudication that were due to an old embolus (visible as a central filling defect in the otherwise-enhancing popliteal artery on the CT image (a), and as a linear filling defect on the angiographic image (b)). A guide wire was advanced past the embolus and a balloon catheter inserted. Balloon angioplasty was performed (c), with subsequent angiogram (d) showing improved appearance of the previously-abnormal segment of the artery (arrow).
