Sclerotic Bone Metastases

Bone metastases. This woman has multiple sclerotic (dense) bone metastases, an appearance that should make you think of breast cancer in a female (as in this case) and prostate cancer in a male. Unfortunately, although the metastases are dense, the overall effect on the involved bone is that it is weakened, and prone to pathologic fractures – this patient presented with an atraumatic pathological intertrochanteric fracture of the right femur (arrows).
