Tension pneumothorax
Tension pneumothorax. Large right pneumothorax, with a markedly hyperlucent right hemithorax as a result. Note the collapsed right lung, and the tracheal and mediastinal shift – none of the right heart border is visible as it is now obscured by the thoracic spine. At the base of the right hemithorax is a small pleural effusion, but with no ‘meniscus’ sign – this is one of the hallmarks of pleural fluid in the setting of a pneumothorax.
