Ureteric stent
Ureteric stent. The pigtails at each end of these catheters help to keep them in the correct position – the proximal end should be in the renal pelvis and the distal end in the bladder. Displacement is uncommon but can occur. These stents are most commonly inserted for ureteric obstruction by bladder tumours, extrinsic compression by metastases or lymphadenopathy in the retroperitoneum, and ureteric calculi.
